Borovets Ski Holidays

The ski resort of Borovets is situated amidst an old pine forest at the foot of Peak Moussala,
the highest in the Balkan Peninsula. Borovets is small, friendly and welcoming so you’ll soon start
to see familiar faces - and best of all, its very cheap. The cost of a pint of beer is 70p-£1,
the cost of a 3 course meal is around £10 and lift passes are priced at around £60 for the week!
Borovets offers better skiing and snowboarding than you would expect and is ideally suited to intermediates.
There are three main areas and although
there are only approximately 24 runs, most of these are fairly long - they cover 40km of piste
Right infront of the Hotel Rila you will find the Sitnyakovo area complete with nursery slope plus red and
black runs for the more advanced. However, you will find the best skiing/boarding if you take the Gondola right
to the top of Yastrabets. At 2350m high, you can take in the breathtaking scenery as you ski down.
Ski halfway down and get the gondola back up or ski all the way to the bottom of the mountain on the Olympic run.
The bottom of the run leads into a woodland cross-country skiiing track, which is a 10-minute walk back to the Gondola
for boarders. However, if you can’t face the walk you can
take a horse and cart ride back to the lift, there is a charge for this so don’t be afraid to barter!

From the top of the Gondola at Yastrebets you can move into the Markoudjik area where you will find
challenging drag lifts and terrain plus a couple of off-piste opportunities. There are a number of mountain
cafes in this area plus a
nursery slope which means beginners don’t have to miss out on the beautiful mountain views.
Apres ski is very good value and takes three main forms…..
1. Small and friendly ski lodge style eateries where you can drink into the night.
2. A couple of Alpine style bars and the “Buzz Bar” Disco for the young and lively
3. There are a number of erotic bars in Borovets which are popular with ‘stag do’s’.
However they aren’t over imposing and don’t spoil the holiday for others.
Shopping in Borovets offers all the basics but is limited to convenience stores & small ski & board shops.
However, shopping enthusiasts can take a day trip to Sofia.
Borovets is suitable for all generations, mainly of intermediate skiing/boarding abilty.
Advanced riders are catered for but there are limited opportunities for those looking for extreme off-piste adventures.
