Chalet Hotel Le Curling, Tignes
The Curling is an excellent value Chalet Hotel in classic Tignes style (ie. not so pretty on the outside, but warm and welcoming on the inside!)
It is set in a superb position right in the centre of Tignes-Val Claret and close to the resort’s main pistes and lifts.
The Tufs chairlift and ski school meeting point are just 2 minutes’ walk away, and from here you can also ski the short distance to a choice of chairlifts, and the base of the funicular taking you straight up to the 100% guaranteed snow of the Grande Motte glacier. You can ski back on piste to within 200m of the hotel, and guests generally ski along the path right back to the Chalet Hotel door – a welcome bonus at the end of your day’s skiing.
The comfortable bedrooms all have en suite bath with separate wc, plus a balcony with views across Tignes and the spectacular surrounding mountain peaks, and there are triple and quad rooms also available. The hotel has a new owner this year, who is working closely with the tour operator and investing to upgrade the style and comfort of both the guest rooms and the public areas,
The cosy dining-room has a large bay window overlooking the centre of Val Claret, and the comfortable lounge area will have its own dedicated bar exclusively for resident guests only. They also run a public bar on the lower-ground floor, with its own separate access from the street, and well insulated from the guest bedrooms, which are all two floors or more away from the bar.
*Chalet Board includes:
- Full skiers’ buffet breakfast with daily hot option*
- Afternoon tea/coffee with cake and savouries†
- 4 course evening meals, including local cheeseboard or dessert, plus pre-dinner apéritif and canapés*
- Choice of complimentary five quality wines, including white, red and rosé options for you to enjoy unlimited throughout dinner*

*(On your Host’s one day off each week, they will leave a simpler Continental breakfast out for you to help yourselves, there is no afternoon tea that day, and you can dine out locally in the evening. Your Resort Represenative will gladly help out with information and make a reservation for you if you wish.)
At a glance
- High altitude skiing & guaranteed snow
- Huge ski area, linked with Val d’Isère
- Shorter transfers from Chambéry Airport
Tignes, with its Grande Motte glacier, is Val d’Isère’s “other half” – between them these two superb ski areas make up the world famous Espace Killy ski area, named after France’s best known Olympic skier, Jean-Claude Killy.
Tignes, famed for its unbeatable snow record as well its excellent skiing for intermediates and experts, comprises three main villages, all interlinked by an excellent 24 hour free bus service.
Val Claret at 2100m has a superb position right at the foot of the Grande Motte funicular. Le Lac and Le Lavachet have a more cosy village feel to them and also offer easy access to the slopes and over to Val d’Isère. All the villages have a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants and a lively, friendly buzz about them. In the unlikely event of indifferent snow – and you’d have to be pretty unlucky to encounter snow problems at this altitude – the glacier always comes to the rescue!
