Right in front of the Hotel Rila you will find the Sitnyakovo area complete with nursery slope plus red and black runs for the more advanced. However, you will find the best skiing and boarding if you take the Gondola right to the top of Yastrabets. At 2350m high, you can take in the breathtaking scenery as you ski down. Ski halfway down and get the gondola back up or ski all the way to the bottom of the mountain on the Olympic run. The bottom of the run leads into a woodland cross-country skiing track, which is a 10-minute walk back to the Gondola for boarders. However, if you can't face the walk you can take a horse and cart ride back to the lift, there is a charge for this so don't be afraid to barter!
From the top of the Gondola at Yastrebets you can move into the Markoudjik area where you will find challenging drag lifts and terrain plus a couple of off-piste opportunities. There are a number of mountain cafes in this area plus a nursery slope which means beginners don't have to miss out on the beautiful mountain views.
Apres ski in Borovets is very good value and takes three main forms….. 1. Small and friendly ski lodge style eateries where you can drink into the night. 2. A couple of Alpine style bars and the "Buzz Bar" Disco for the young and lively 3. There are a number of erotic bars in Borovets which are popular with 'stag do's'. However they aren't over-imposing and don't spoil the holiday for others.
Shopping in Borovets offers all the basics but is limited to convenience stores & small ski & board shops. However, shopping enthusiasts can take a day trip to Sofia.
