Set high above the picturesque Upper Tarentaise valley, La Rosière is a brilliantly well thought out resort. Big enough to have all the facilities any skier could wish for, it is also small enough to be known as one of the Alps’ friendliest resorts, and to have avoided ugly apartment blocks in favour of traditional wood and stone chalets.
Its sunny, wide open slopes are snow-sure (the resort itself is at the same altitude as Val d’Isère), with the main lifts and pistes all radiating out directly from the resort centre, with simply sensational views across the valley to Les Arcs.
With a mix from gentler blue runs and cruisy reds to tougher blacks on the La Thuile side and renowned off-piste areas, the Espace San Bernardo ski area stretches from La Rosière up and over the 2,640m Petit St Bernard Pass and the French/Italian border, to incorporate more great skiing on the La Thuile side of the mountain.
