ObergurglObergurgl is the highest parish in Austria and one of Austria’s most snow-sure locations. Although none of Obergurgl/Hochgurgl’s 68 miles of piste are on a glacier, the resorts are so high that good natural snow is virtually guaranteed from November to May, with wall-to-wall snowmaking on occasional standby duty.
All the runs are above the tree-line, and most are satisfyingly steep enough to keep intermediates and even advanced skiers and snowboarders happy.
There’s plenty for beginners too. Surrounded by glorious mountain peaks and glaciers, Obergurgl is well known for its top quality hotels and modern, queue-free lift system. Many repeat guests enjoy the fact that this compact resort is still small enough to meet up with friends on the slopes, at the favourite Nederhütte mountain hut or down in the village.
Nightlife and non-ski activities are mainly centred around the hotels, but also include a weekly ski-show, night skiing and tobogganing.
